2001 Polaris XC 700 SP VES
Winter 2000 - 2001

When is Polaris going to add power valves to their big-block 700 twin? Right now. Polaris has announced a limited build of the 2001 XC 700 SP with Polaris Variable Exhaust System, or VES.

The 2001 XC 700 SP VES will be equipped with the 700cc “big-block” engine fitted with the Polaris Variable Exhaust System (VES) as found on the 440/500/600 and 800 triple engines.

Polaris claims an approximate 8 HP increase, which should place the output in the 126-128 HP neighborhood based on 118-120 HP from the current big-block 700 twin. Dual TM-40mm Mikuni flatslides are fitted with a throttle position sensor (TPS), with a water temp sensor and fuel selector switch standard. In addition to the peak power increase, we also expect improvements in noise level, fuel economy, low end and midrange power and easier starting.

This new engine will be housed in the Polaris EDGE chassis and will have the same features as the current 2001 models, except for some interesting suspension changes. Following the lead of the Pro X race sleds, the XC 700 SP VEV will feature Arvin Meritor Ryde FX shocks in the front track and front suspension locations. These are aluminum-body, mono-tube, internal floating piston high-pressure gas shocks built by Arvin Ride Control. The rear-rear track shock is still the capable and trail-smooth Polaris Position Sensitive (PPS) Fox shock.

The limited build XC 700 SP VEV is scheduled for production in early December and has a suggested U.S. list price of $7199, excluding freight and set-up. According to Polaris, this sled will be “far and away the best performing 700 single pipe sled in the business”.
