Maxima TundraR Injection Oil

With all of the new engines now featuring some form of exhaust port modifiers (power valves), the need for cleaner burning oils has increased. Another factor is the desire to reduce oil smoke, as well as cleaner engines and less plug fouling. We get all of this and more with high-quality injection oils. Over the years we have used several quality injection oils, and last season we used more Maxima TundraR than any other.

Maxima TundraR is not a 100% synthetic oil, but a petroleum/synthetic blend. It burns very cleanly, both in terms of inside the engine and visable smoke. It has a pleasant odor for those riding behind you, and doesn’t make your clothes stink like most oils do.

What about engine lubrication, isn’t that why you use a higher quality oil? Of course. Very few oils meet the highest certification levels, and we’re talking about the European ISO-E-GD rating and the Japanese JASO-FC rating. Maxima TundraR meets both of these oil ratings, both of which are tougher standards than the U.S. BIA/TCW-3 and API-TC specifications.

TundraR is ashless and smokeless, a blend of clean burning synthetic esters, polyisobutylene and petroleum with special additives that provide anti-scuff/anti-wear properties with an extremely low cold pour point. Other addatives protect against spark plug fouling (we didn’t foul a SINGLE plug using TundraR this past season), carbon formation, ring sticking, rust and corrosion. Hey, if it meets the European and Japanese specifications, it’s good enough for us.

Good oil doesn’t come cheap, so expect to pay over $20 per gallon for TundraR. If this is too steep, we’ve also used the less expensive Maxima Tundra (less than $20 per gallon) with good results. It doesn’t burn quite as clean as TundraR, but it too is a synthetic/petroleum blend that also boasts an extremely low pour point of -45.
