Tek-Vest Upper Body Protection

Most snowmobilers look at protective gear like a chest protector and figure it’s for racers only, or that the gear is too heavy, bulky, or uncomfortable. Not the Tek-Vest.

The Tekrider Tek-Vest has emerged as the racers and riders choice in upper body protection, and it’s because of the comfortable fit, lightweight, and level of protection. Several of our SnowTech test riders have been wearing Tek-Vests for a couple of years now, and it has become part of our everyday riding gear just like a helmet or boots. In fact, if you suit up without it, you get the feeling of being “naked”, like you’re going riding totally exposed.

You don’t have to hit a tree or be in a crash to need the protection either. It can be something as innocent as falling off your sled and landing on a ski-tip with your rib cage that’ll do it. For the exact same logic you wear a helmet, you should also wear a Tek-Vest. It’s that simple, and the Tek-Vest is far more comfortable than a helmet. They’re “action cut” to provide maximum mobility, and the internal protective pads are sized and positioned such that you really get used to the Tek-Vest quite easily.

In colder riding, you can tighten up the waist straps to retain more heat, adding warmth to your set-up. As temps warm, you can loosen the straps for increased airflow and cooler riding. A breathable nylon mesh helps keep you cool. We even wear our Tek-Vests in cool weather (under 60 degrees) enduro bike riding in the woods. Tek-Vests are available in various styles, with or without extra arm and shoulder protection, in different sizes and styles to suit your requirements and budget. The “Super Sport” Tek-Vest has a removable fleece collar that can be zipped into or out of the jacket and is offered in seven different sizes with prices ranging from $230 for the smaller sizes and $250 for the larger sizes.

The “Sport” Tek-Vest is fully featured, but does not have the removable fleece collar and is well suited for warmer weather riding and aggressive types who generate their own heat. The Sport model is offered in five sizes (not the two largest sizes like the Super Sport) and sells for $199 ($220 for the XXL). They all perform the same basic function, providing an extra level of protection to help prevent injury. We use both the Super Sport and Sport model Tek-Vests and we like them.
