| Filling Storage Areas
Most of us are already familiar with what happens if you put a bottle of water in the back of the sled, all by itself, and let it bounce around for a few miles. This is why snowmobilers tend to pack the storage compartments full, and if not full will scramble to find “packing material” to suck up the extra airspace so your goods aren’t bouncing and rattling around. Things like empty oil bottles or water bottles, extra gloves, even an old towel. Many times the number of varies to get it all to fit just right.
One cheap and easy thing we have found that works well to cushion the packed goods and varies in compressed size is a huge car wash sponge. It is huge enough to top-off the storage compartment, even the huge ones like found on the Sabercat models, yet it will compress down to fit into trunk-sized storage areas. If the last item packed, it also provides a good seal against snow infiltration.
