Fusion Fuel Economy
Dear Ralph:
I am considering buying a new Fusion, but nothing was said in your new issue about fuel economy for the new 2006. Is the 700 Cleanfire better than the 900?

We believe the new 700 (755cc) will be better than both the 2006 version of the 900 and the updated 2005s as well. Not only due to the smaller bore size and power output, but due to the extra year of development on the injection system and mapping. The 2006 engines now have two injectors per cylinder, so fuel metering should be more accurate. And, the 2006 engines are expected to be EPA-certified; the 2005 was not. This alone indicates a level of fuel economy, as engines that are this clean provide excellent fuel economy; less fuel is being wasted (emissions).
One thing we noticed with the 2005s was the fuel level indicator was really off; when it said empty you had several gallons left, so it didn’t help the perception of fuel economy. Even so, it was nowhere close to like a 1000 SDI or a Yamaha 4-stroke or a Firecat 700 for that matter.
