Dear Ralph

Optional Springs

Dear Ralph:
I have a 2002 Arctic Cat ZR 800 EFI and I would like to replace the spring on the center shock in the front of the rear suspension. I don’t know for sure what the stock spring is rated at, but I was told to install a 200-pound spring. I don’t want a titanium spring due to the cost. Any help would be appreciated.

Any Arctic Cat dealer should be able to assist you with this. They can tell you what rate spring is currently installed in your sled as it came with, and they will be able to tell you what optional springs are offered for that specific model. These parts have been tested by Arctic Cat for proper fit and performance characteristics so they don’t coil bind or cause other problems within the suspension. Just because there are enough threads on a shock body to get a spring to fit doesn’t mean it’s going to work properly or safely!

There are usually optional softer and firmer springs for most every suspension spring from any of the manufacturers. Unfortunately, there are not readily available spring charts like what we’re used to in the dirt bike industry, so it’s not like there are several performance shops to choose from that offer springs that will drop right in, even though they may exist for some other application.
