Dear Ralph

Studdable M-10?

Dear Ralph:
I’m going to by a new Polaris 600 HO Fusion and I was concerned as to whether I can install studs in the 128” track that the M-10 with 1.25 lug height comes with. And, would they be effective. I have been a long time subscriber of your GREAT MAGAZINE and value your opinion.

Polaris does indicate you can stud the 128” track of the M-10 if you install the accessory rear cooler protectors, with stud extension no more than 3/8” longer than the lug height (same as any IQ skid). I don’t think they’ve ever recommended studding an M-10 with a 1.25” track, though, but we all know it will be done.

I’d wait until the actual production sleds show up and the stud makers get their hands on them, and we’ll have some detailed data on exactly what needs to be done to make it happen. Personally, I don’t like to stud 1.25” tracks because the studs get so long. I draw the line at 1.0”, but that’s me. If I’m going to run studs, I’d take out the 1.25” track and install a lower lug one. Then when it really snows, go back to the taller lug track.
