Yamaha has issued a safety recall for their 2016 SR Viper snowmobiles equipped with a dealer-installed Mountain Performance Inc. (MPI) Turbo Kit. The Mountain Performance Inc. (MPI) Turbo Kits were sold as an after-market accessory at Yamaha snowmobile dealers nationwide from March 2015 through September 2016 for about $3,300.

This recall involves about 400 units. Yamaha has received 40 reports of engine damage due to an over-boost condition with the turbocharger. No injuries have been reported.

Owners of these machines should immediately stop using the recalled snowmobiles and contact a local Yamaha dealer to schedule a free repair. Yamaha is contacting all registered owners directly.
