Magnum Force Ultra Clutch Weights for Ski-Doo 850 Turbo

With a brand new engine package comes brand new opportunities to customize and improve upon the performance. One such opportunity before us is the incredible new 850 Turbo package found in Ski-Doo Summit and FreeRide models this year.

With the limited build introduction last winter, performance shops like Starting Line Products had a chance to get some of these machines and work with them long and hard developing go-fast parts to enhance their performance.

What the master tuners at SLP discovered was the as-delivered stock clutching tended to load the turbo engine sooner than it should. Instead, they wanted to design a different flyweight that would allow the turbo a slight chance to spool up the boost and power, in effect better matching the load being applied to the power being produced.

This revolutionary new clutch weight delivers a slingshot effect when used on the new Ski-Doo Turbo. Its (patents pending) design applies the Turbo’s horsepower to the ground much more effectively by using Adjustable Stall Technology (AST). This SLP exclusive design allows the turbo to begin to spool quickly and then the Magnum Force Ultra Weight aggressively shifts to create exhaust heat, boost and ultimately power more quickly and transfers that power to the ground.

This flyweight looks like no other. The key to this (patents pending) design resides in the “Launch Tube” that protrudes out of the bottom of the weight. At rest and in low speed modes, the mass of the Launch Tube is below the line perpendicular to the clutch. The mass located in this area reduces the initial shift force of the weight while the turbo is in naturally aspirated and low boost mode, yet applies that mass as added shift force when it shifts above the perpendicular plane.

The amount of mass in this area has been made adjustable so the initial shift force and duration can be varied by simply adding or subtracting mass and length to the Launch Tube. This makes the kit extremely easy to adjust for different elevations, snow conditions or rider weight. This revolutionary new technology replaces the need to use engagement grinds on the weights and extremely high spring rates that are prone to loss of tension and breakage. It also places the appropriate shift force on the belt at all times, proving to be a far superior clutching solution for these Turbo sleds.

Take a look at the graph showing the shift force vs. displacement, or closing of the primary and you can see how the stock flyweight loads the turbo engine quickly and then falls off in shift force. In comparison, the Magnum Force Ultra weights delay the shift force slightly to allow the turbo to come alive but also to let the engine operate properly in the naturally aspirated area. Once the turbo boost comes into play and the power hits the shift force is applied smoothly and evenly through the shift curve.

This is going to be one of the most effective and most noticeable improvements you can make to your new Ski-Doo 850 Turbo. Typically you’ll see an improvement of 3-4 sled lengths when running these weights, along with reduced belt temperatures.
