Here we go, brand new patent drawings of the next best thing in snowmobiling! It sure looks like we’re getting closer to that smaller, lighter, less expensive play sled we’ve been asking for!
Shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what the DNA is on this one. Yep, this thing has Arctic Cat DNA all over it.
Suffice it to say we could very well be looking at a brand new snowmobile being readied by Arctic Cat. The tall spindles and the skis look like it’s an Arctic Cat, but the seat leans more towards a Ski-Doo design influence.
The engine seems to tilt the scales in a certain direction. Curiously, this looks to be a 2-stroke engine and not a 4-stroke engine. Look at how the intake and exhaust are on the same side of the single cylinder, in laid-down Firecat fashion. This would provide a very low center of gravity and mass centralization. Yep, this is likely a new single-cylinder EFI Arctic Cat engine.
And check out that belt drive system, getting rid of the heavy and expensive chaincase! Lightweight and inexpensive would be major design goals in order to maintain a healthy power to weight ratio and a decent price point.
The massive bush guard front bumper would lead us to believe there will be less experienced riders on this machine, with that kind of frontal protection! Never know what those newbies are going to be running into!
Looks like the entry level market could get very exciting here in the near future. Stay tuned!
