Use of the new “HPV Roller” secondary clutch that debuted on the 2005 Mach Z is expanded for 2006 to all X models (except the 550X) and the Summit Highmark. The state-of-the-art roller-type clutch delivers an improvement in upshifting and backshifting performance and consistency, with crisp, smooth acceleration and higher top-end speed as well. It is also specifically designed to work hand-in-hand with Rotax Electronic Reverse.
This new secondary is a roller-type with three large rollers fixed to the inner sheave. It eliminates free play in extreme backshifting situations for smoother and quieter operation. A double-helix cam (encapsulated roller) is designed to engage the RER in just five degrees of rotation – a huge improvement over the HPV secondary, reducing the “clunk” from the secondary when using RER. The HPV Roller’s reduced cam force and friction also enables the belt to run cooler, for longer belt life. Roller life also exceeds that of the slider cam buttons.
