Dear Ralph:
I have not been able to get proper info on OEM RPM’s on a 2002 Arctic Cat ZL 800 EFI SS stock clutch. Could you please let me know what top RPM is? I live in Wisconsin. I have contacted several dealers and speed shops, and got ranges from 7200 to 8250. I was maxed out at 7000 prior to cleaning my APV valves and installing a new belt. I checked, cleaned both clutches. I now get 7500 RPM and the valves open at 6200. Please help. Thank you.

I’d be real curious to see if your tach is working right. The exhaust valves should open at 6900, and the sled should be running at more like 8000-8200 RPM. If just the RPM was off would be one thing, but to have the valve opening off as well is not right. Based on the sled now running at 7500 RPM and the valves opening at 6200, it sounds like your tach is reading 700 RPM too low. The valves are going to open based on a signal from the ECU (ECM) control box. First verify the tach is working right, then validate all clutch calibrations (springs, flyweights, helix, gearing).
