Arctic Cat Expands ACT Diamond Drive Use

The ACT Diamond Drive, first released on the 2004 Arctic Cat ZR 900, has been expanded to the Firecats and the all-new M-Series mountain sleds for 2005.

This revolutionary planetary gearbox replaces the jackshaft, chaincase, chain and gears of traditional drive systems with a sequence of CNC-machined gears. The result is a claimed 11-pound weight reduction, lower center of gravity, added strength and reduced maintenance.

The gearbox system allows a wider spread of gear ratios, plus a reduced track speed at clutch engagement. The brake disc and caliper are mounted on the driveshaft, with a more linear braking action.

Changes to the drive shaft heat treating process and design are said to have eliminated durability issues experienced with approximately 25% of the 2004 ZR 900s fitted with the ACT Diamond Drive system.
