Outdoor Shop Test Sled
The Outdoor Shop (ODS), an Arctic Cat dealer located in Massachusetts, builds their own clutch kits and sells performance parts and accessories from bolt on items to motor kits. But how does a shop “stay sharp†with limited testing conditions? With the low snow this past season in the northeast, they had to resort to other methods to hone their skills.
For instance, it was decided one of their shop sleds would hit the asphalt. Sponsored by The Outdoor Shop and ArcticChat.com, the sled is based on a 2004 Arctic cat F7 chassis with a Cutler’s Performance Center (CPC) 1000 naturally aspirated trail setup motor with bored carbs, CPC pipes and pump gas head inserts. Only the parts required to run on asphalt, as well as proper clutching and jetting, were changed on this machine. The motor put out 196 hp with pump fuel (as tested by Dynotech Research). So far, the best 1/4 mile time with racer/pilot Bill DiFranco has been 9.47 seconds at 134 mph. Now they’ve set their sights on the 9.3’s this fall when it gets cooler. This is one of the quickest/fastest trail twin setups on asphalt.
