The KCS system (Knock Control System) is designed to protect the engine from the potential severe damage that can be caused by engine knock. The system detects the acoustical signature of engine knock with a knock sensor, and the ECU responds by automatically adjusting the ignition timing to eliminate the knock.
The KCS is only functional when the throttle is open at _ or more and the engine is at 5700rpm or above. In this knock monitor range, KCS is constantly monitoring for engine knock and controls ignition timing on a real time basis.
