Many of the new mountain sleds have LESS storage, so we were forced to look for something better. What we discovered was a new handlebar storage bag from Survival On Snow that is clearly designed for mountain sleds and their narrow space within the center grab bar. It also fits nicely on trail sleds, as long as the handlebars are tall enough to provide the needed height.
The bag mounts right over the center pad, fitting nicely inside of the center grab bar. Two sets of elastic straps (four mounting buckles in total) keep it mounted firmly to the handlebars and steering post. There are numerous pockets and pouches, with one generous one facing the rider, bottle holders on both sides (for water, not beer), a super-sized pouch on the front side accessible from the top, and a smaller pouch on the front of this. With a soft inner lining, there’s enough room to safely carry things like a camera, GPS, extra gloves, munchies, whatever. Keys, wallet, sunglasses, anything and everything is safe and secure while you ride.
All of the zippers have extra “tethers†attached to them, making them easy to grab with your gloves on so you can open and close the zippers. Adjustable elastic straps allow you to adjust the tension and secure your bottles into the side holders.
Most everyone wants more storage on their sled, and this clever bag makes the most of the limited space. About our only complaint is the bag does restrict the line-of-sight to your gauges on some models, but it doesn’t completely cover them. You might have to lean forward slightly to see the speedo and/or tach compared to without the bag mounted. The heavy-duty nylon construction is strong, but not waterproof. It doesn’t move around at all, it is held in place with authority. It fits every mountain sled we’ve mounted it to, and fits many trail sleds with tall bars. We consider it a “must-have†item for Summit REV models that don’t even have enough storage space for one water bottle.
